Rayna's Birth Story

It all started when Mike and I went to my 39 week appointment to find out that Rayna was still (thankfully) doing great but still measuring on the big side. My doctor asked us to go ahead and schedule a day to be induced instead of waiting around for her to come on her own. That day I was 3 cm dilated and 70%. Since we could not be induced on the weekend (when her actual due date was - May 2nd) we chose to go in to the hospital that Sunday night (May 3rd) to be induced and deliver her the morning of May 4th.
Before we left Sunday night we had Rylee's MeeMe and Poppy come over that day to hang out and get to know her routine since they would be staying at our house with Rylee while we were in the hospital. I was full of emotions that night as I was packing up my last minute things, trying to soak in all my time with Rylee as an only child, and finding out that my mom (who came in town earlier that day for Rayna's birth) had to be rushed to the hospital to have her appendix removed. Thankfully, she convinced the doctors at the clinic she went to that she HAD to be at the same hospital as me since her grandbaby was going to be born the next day. After leaving for the hospital Mike and I stopped by my mom's room to visit before I went in to be induced. This was most definitely NOT in the plans to happen the night before Rayna arrived but so glad we were in the same hospital and my mom's surgery went well. She was even released the next morning just in time to be wheeled over to the waiting room in labor & delivery. There is nothing Granna won't do for her kids or grandkids. She made it to see Rayna when she arrived and got to hold her right after she was born (hospital bracelets and all)!
We finally arrived at labor and delivery around 10:30pm to get checked in. I got my IV and hooked up to the fetal monitor where we got to hear Rayna's sweet little heartbeat and see that I was already having some contractions on my own. Around 1:30am I was given pitocin to help jump start the contractions to move the labor on quicker. Afterwards, I definitely started feeling more contractions so at 2:00am I got an epidural which quickly numbed me from the waist down. Throughout the labor Rayna's heart rate continued to drop due to the pitocin level so they would take me off the pitocin every 10 minutes to get her heart rate back up then put me back on the pitocin (basically 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off). My doctor came in later on that morning around 6:00am to break my water and check me (I was dilated to 5cm). At 7:20am the doctor came back in and I was dilated to 7cm, at 8:45am I was dilated to 9cm and got extremely nauseous which caused me to throw up several times and also helped me to get to 10cm, and at 9:52am the doctor came back in to tell us I was finally at 10cm and ready to push! Exactly 26 minutes later at 10:18am we heard the sweetest cry and welcomed our second baby girl into the world. Rayna weighed 7 lbs 15 oz and measured 21.25 in long (even though I think her measurements might have been a little off). She was the spitting image of her big sis and had even more dark black hair than Rylee was born with. It was love at first sight and was by far one of the best moments of my life (ranking up there with the birth of Rylee). We are now a family of four and could not be happier! Rayna was the missing piece to our family and we are so head over heels in love with her. I honestly never knew how I could love another child as much I love Rylee but as soon as they laid Rayna in my arms my heart instantly doubled in size. I am one blessed mom to two beautiful and healthy little girls!
